The Story

A Building With a Story Worth Carrying Forward

Historical view of The Woodson

Built in 1938 on the former State Hospital No. 2 campus in St. Joseph, The Woodson was named for Dr. Charles Woodson, who served as superintendent. The building later supported children's health services and educational use through the St. Joseph School District. After the property was sold in 2016 with demolition contemplated, it remained standing but sat vacant for more than nine years and fell into significant disrepair. The current redevelopment is giving this recognizable building a new residential purpose while preserving the architectural character that makes it part of St. Joseph's story.
